U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma has expressed his views following a vote on the Continuing Resolution intended to maintain government funding. In his statement, Mullin acknowledged the complexities and imperfections of the bill but emphasized its necessity.
"We wanted to raise the debt limit to eliminate Chuck Schumer’s leverage and put President Trump in the best possible position to succeed," Mullin stated. He highlighted that although Friday's bill was "imperfect and unideal," it managed to keep the government operational, offered aid to farmers and disaster victims, and secured some victories for the incoming Trump administration.
Mullin expressed frustration over the situation, stating, "To be clear: it never should have come to this." He criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for not bringing individual appropriations bills through regular order, attributing part of the blame for the current predicament to him.
Despite his frustrations, Mullin conveyed optimism about future prospects under President Donald J. Trump. "The American people have spoken, and better days ahead under President Donald J. Trump," he remarked. He also reiterated his commitment alongside his Senate GOP colleagues to work with President Trump in their efforts to "Make America Great Again."
Mullin concluded by expressing gratitude for being part of what he described as an important fight for change in Washington.
