On Sunday, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin appeared on CNN's State of the Union with Jake Tapper to discuss various topics, including President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet picks and developments in the Syrian Civil War. During the interview, Mullin defended Tulsi Gabbard's qualifications for Director of National Intelligence and supported Pete Hegseth's nomination as Defense Secretary.
Mullin commented on the end of Assad's regime in Syria: "So, the [entity] that’s wounded the most here is Iran. Some stability will take place I believe in Syria now that Assad is gone."
Regarding Tulsi Gabbard, Mullin stated: "Keep in mind, that when [Tulsi Gabbard] went over [to Syria] she was still... a captain in the National Guard... She has clearances and she’s able to do her job. I think she’s 100% qualified to be the next Director of National Intelligence."
On Pete Hegseth's confirmation process, Mullin remarked: "Pete’s doing exactly what he needs to do... there’s been absolutely no ‘noes’ from Republican senators at this point... I think Pete will make an outstanding Secretary of Defense."
Mullin also criticized media coverage of Hegseth: "[The media has] never been there, they’ve never been in combat... The media should be ashamed of themselves."
