U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin and over 140 members of Congress have called on President Trump to reinstate life-affirming pro-life policies as he begins his new administration. The letter, sent Tuesday, was spearheaded by U.S. Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith and James Lankford along with U.S. Representatives Chris Smith and Robert Aderholt.
The communication urged President Trump to reverse what the lawmakers described as the Biden administration's "unprecedented and illegal pro-abortion policies." They expressed a desire for a return to previous policies that restricted taxpayer funding for abortion domestically and internationally.
"Over the last four years, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and their administration systematically weaponized the government against the unborn," the lawmakers wrote. They emphasized a need for Trump to reintroduce anti-discrimination conscience policies, pardon peaceful protesters, and investigate potential illegal late-term abortions.
The letter further encouraged examining federal programs to support pregnant women with housing, childcare, transportation, addiction recovery, and health care services.
"We are grateful that the Trump administration can bring an end to the weaponization of the United States government against pro-life Americans," they stated in their appeal for real choices for women without pressure towards abortion.
This appeal was endorsed by organizations such as Americans United for Life and Family Research Council among others.
