House Republicans are taking steps to reduce federal spending, following President-elect Donald Trump's emphasis on cutting government red tape. Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Okla., introduced the "Decreasing Overlapping Grants Efficiently (DOGE) Act" on Thursday. The bill aims to streamline redundant government grants across various departments.
The introduction of this legislation follows Trump's announcement of an advisory panel named the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk. "Like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, I'm looking at ways to make the government more efficient and accountable," Bice told Fox News Digital. "The DOGE Act would create a deconfliction and tracking system for federal grants that not only reduces waste but also builds confidence in how public funds are distributed and managed."
The proposed bill includes measures such as prohibiting multiple federal grants for the same applicant with similar purposes and commissioning a report on using artificial intelligence to identify duplicative grant applications more efficiently.
Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., co-sponsors the bill and recently co-founded the DOGE Caucus in the House. This move signals Republican readiness to control all branches of power in Washington, D.C., next year when they will have control over both houses of Congress and the White House.
Trump stated that the Department of Government Efficiency would assist his administration in reducing regulations, cutting unnecessary expenditures, and restructuring Federal Agencies. In line with these efforts, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., announced a new subcommittee for the 119th Congress corresponding with this department.
