Today, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) released a statement in response to the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Majority report on the 2021 withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

“The House Foreign Affairs Committee Republicans’ investigation confirms everything the American people have known for three years about the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal,” said Sen. Mullin. “For three years, the team that I had the privilege to work alongside to get Americans out of Afghanistan has detailed the systemic failures across multiple agencies that we experienced firsthand. Between the Biden-Harris administration’s hesitation to evacuate noncombatants despite warnings, to their failure to adhere to recommendations to leave a small military presence in place, the findings in this report corroborate everything we have known.

The whole world watched as this disaster played out in real time. If the administration was prioritizing optics before, there is no hiding from them now. Still, this administration refuses to admit their failure. I am grateful for Chairman McCaul and the Committee’s efforts to further uncover these truths. We will not stop until those responsible are held accountable. A tragedy of this magnitude cannot happen again.”
