At a recent confirmation hearing, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin introduced Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor. The introduction was made at the request of President Trump, and Mullin emphasized Chavez-DeRemer's ability to connect with both businesses and labor.
"President Trump assembled a historic coalition for the American people. Lori represents that coalition as she can speak to both businesses and labor," said Senator Mullin. He expressed his commitment to supporting Trump's nominees, stating, "I will fight to confirm every one of his nominees."
Mullin highlighted Chavez-DeRemer's qualifications by noting her experience as a small business owner and public servant, along with her relationships with union leaders. He remarked on her potential to bridge gaps between businesses and workers: "With Lori’s unique background... she has the ability to bridge the gap between businesses and workers."
He also addressed bipartisan support for working-class Americans: "One thing that both sides of the aisle agree on is supporting working class Americans that power our country’s economy." Furthermore, he acknowledged Oklahoma's status as a right-to-work state while still backing Chavez-DeRemer.
In his remarks, Mullin criticized what he perceived as hypocrisy from Democrats regarding inclusion. He pointed out issues raised by a senator from New Hampshire about contracts awarded by the Biden administration related to Tesla, suggesting inconsistency in their stance towards figures like Elon Musk.
"You’re concerned about Mark and Jeff and Elon; it wasn’t too long ago you guys were happy to take all their money," Mullin stated. He accused Democrats of making baseless accusations: "Yet what we do is we spend all of our time complaining and making reckless accusations about something that is absolutely false."
Mullin concluded by criticizing these actions as fear-mongering tactics aimed at energizing political bases without substance.
