Senator James Lankford has introduced a new bill aimed at addressing human trafficking in government contracts. The Ensuring Accountability and Dignity in Government Contracting Act of 2025 seeks to close gaps in federal regulations that allow such trafficking to continue, while also enhancing oversight and accountability within agencies. Representative David Valadao is leading the introduction of this bill in the House of Representatives.

“It is unthinkable that taxpayer dollars would fund human and labor trafficking,” stated Lankford. He highlighted how lax standards have allowed traffickers to exploit vulnerable individuals, emphasizing that the bill will implement proactive measures to prevent taxpayer funds from supporting federal contracts without anti-trafficking safeguards.

Valadao echoed these concerns, noting the United States' zero-tolerance policy for human trafficking. “Recent reports make it clear that federal agencies are failing to take meaningful action to prevent trafficking in government contracts,” he said. Valadao expressed pride in introducing legislation that mandates contractors have compliance plans against trafficking and ensures consequences for violations. He stressed the importance of preventing American taxpayers from being complicit in human trafficking through this critical legislation.

The Ensuring Accountability and Dignity in Government Contracting Act aims to establish stricter rules and procedures as part of its efforts to combat this issue.
