U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) spent the day in southwest Oklahoma hosting “Community Conversations” with community leaders, constituents, law enforcement, state officials, and business owners in Cheyenne, Elk City, Mangum, and Hollis as part of a busy in-state work period.
“After a very busy July, it’s great to be with southwest Oklahomans to hear their needs and discuss how I’m fighting for them in Washington,” said Sen. Mullin. ”I’m thankful for the warm welcomes at every stop and am appreciative of those who came prepared with hard questions, personal stories, and suggestions for how I can better serve them.”
Senator Mullin began the day in Cheyenne where he met with constituents, including Cheyenne City Manager Nehemiah Yager, and local community leaders. The senator discussed Washington’s spending habits, the need for fiscal responsibility among elected officials, taxes, his opposition to Green New Deal policies, and his fight for a fair Farm Bill. Additionally, Senator Mullin took questions regarding the Biden-Harris border crisis and assured attendees of his efforts alongside GOP colleagues to secure the southern border.
Following this visit, Senator Mullin stopped in Elk City for a community leaders luncheon including City Manager Tom Ivester and Elk City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Susie Cupp. Speaking to a large crowd, the senator talked through ongoing appropriations negotiations and took questions on upcoming legislation, government overreach, and his reasons for running for office.
In Mangum, Senator Mullin met with business leaders including Sovereign Bank CEO Brian Crane and Jed Winters of Wintree Homes LLC & Mangum Brick Company to provide updates on his work on Capitol Hill. The senator explained how federal overregulation of businesses sparked his political involvement and continues to motivate his efforts to reduce government intervention in Oklahoma. He also addressed questions about his seat on the Senate Armed Services Committee and stopping corruption at the federal level.
Senator Mullin concluded the afternoon in Hollis where he provided an overview of the legislative process. He met with City Manager Mark Whisenant, Harmon County Forward Executive Director Adam Bromlow, city business leaders, and constituents to discuss how his efforts in the U.S. Senate translate into benefits for Oklahoma. Additional topics included concerns regarding the border crisis, crop insurance issues, and perceived overreach by the Biden-Harris administration.
