U.S. Senators Markwayne Mullin, James Lankford, and Representatives Frank Lucas, Tom Cole, and Stephanie Bice have raised concerns regarding the proposed changes to the Tulsa USPS Processing Center. In a letter addressed to the United States Postal Service Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the Members expressed apprehension about the impact of the Delivering for America Ten-Year Plan on Tulsa USPS employees.
The Members commended USPS for organizing a public meeting in March to discuss the modernization efforts outlined in the Ten-Year Plan. However, they highlighted the uncertainty among USPS employees in Tulsa regarding potential layoffs and reassignments as part of the proposed changes. They emphasized the importance of clear and timely communication from USPS to both employees and customers.
In the letter, the Members stated, "We are writing to confirm the facts about the Delivering for America Ten-Year Plan and to learn more about USPS communications to help reduce confusion and ensure that USPS provides timely and accurate information to its employees, customers, and Congress."
The concerns stem from reports indicating a proposal to redirect mail from Tulsa and Fayetteville regions through a processing center in Oklahoma City, leading to the closure of processing centers in Tulsa and Fayetteville. The potential reassignment of career positions added to the unease among Tulsa USPS employees.
The Members requested written responses from Postmaster General DeJoy regarding the proposed changes and their implications. They concluded the letter with a note of anticipation for further discussions on the matter.
The letter reflects the Members' commitment to advocating for the interests of USPS employees and ensuring transparency in USPS operations during the implementation of the Ten-Year Plan.
