Washington, D.C. – In a historic move, Congressman Josh Brecheen has voted for the second time to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The House of Representatives has passed the vote, signaling growing discontent with Mayorkas' handling of the border crisis.

"The situation at our border is a crisis of Secretary Mayorkas' own making. Mayorkas has thumbed his nose at the Constitution since day one and there are at least seven known statutes of federal law that he is willfully ignoring. I now urge the Senate to take immediate action and convict him," expressed Congressman Josh Brecheen, highlighting his concerns about Mayorkas' actions.

The statistics at the border are staggering. Since President Joe Biden assumed office, there have been over 8.3 million illegal crossings nationwide, with over 7 million occurring at the Southern Border alone. Additionally, a shocking 1.7 million individuals known as "gotaways" have successfully evaded U.S. Border Patrol. These numbers reflect the gravity of the crisis unfolding at the border.

Furthermore, since the start of FY 2024, there have been over 1 million illegal immigrant encounters. The month of December 2023 saw a significant surge, with 302,034 illegal immigrants encountered at the Southern Border. This marked a 300% increase compared to December 2020. In fact, December became the 34th consecutive month with higher monthly illegal immigrant encounters than any month under the previous administration.

Disturbingly, the border crisis has also revealed concerning security risks. In December, 19 individuals whose names appeared on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended while attempting to enter the U.S. illegally between ports of entry. Under President Biden, a total of 331 individuals on the terrorist watchlist have been intercepted at the Southern Border. Shockingly, in FY24 alone, 50 individuals on the watchlist have been stopped trying to enter illegally, surpassing the encounters in all previous fiscal years combined.

The accumulation of these challenges has prompted Congressman Josh Brecheen's call for Mayorkas' impeachment. Brecheen's vote in the House of Representatives reflects the growing frustration and demands for accountability regarding the handling of the border crisis.

As the impeachment proceedings move to the Senate, the nation awaits the outcome of this critical decision. The fate of Secretary Mayorkas hangs in the balance, as lawmakers deliberate on the consequences of his alleged disregard for federal law and the safety of the American people.
