Today, Senators Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) have introduced the Constitutional Election Integrity Act, a bill aimed at preventing state politicians and entities from disqualifying presidential candidates based on constitutional matters. The legislation emphasizes that only the Supreme Court of the United States has the authority to decide legal claims arising from the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
The Constitutional Election Integrity Act also includes a provision to withhold federal funding for election administration from states that misuse the 14th Amendment for political purposes. This bill has garnered support from Senators J.D. Vance (R-OH), Rick Scott (R-FL), Ted Budd (R-NC), and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY).
Senator Mullin expressed his concerns about the current situation, stating, "Presidential elections are determined by the American people, not liberal political activists with a grudge. Right now, states like Colorado and Maine are working overtime to undermine American voters and kick President Donald Trump off the ballot." He believes that the Constitutional Election Integrity Act will ensure that any challenges to the U.S. Constitution are adjudicated by the Supreme Court, rather than partisan activists.
Senator Tillis echoed Senator Mullin's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of allowing American voters to decide their President. He said, "Regardless of whether you support or oppose former President Donald Trump, it is outrageous to see left-wing activists make a mockery of our political system by scheming with partisan state officials and pressuring judges to remove him from the ballot."
Senator Scott expressed his concerns about the actions of partisan activists, stating, "Kicking your political enemies off the ballot is the kind of stuff you see in communist countries like Venezuela, Cuba, and China—it should never be happening in the United States of America. Period. These partisan activists are anti-democracy, and their actions are an effort to silence Americans and their votes."
Senator Budd also voiced his support for the bill, highlighting the need to restore election integrity. He said, "Activist courts and far-left state officials have attempted to remove a lawful candidate for president from the ballot in a brazen, undemocratic act of election interference."
Similarly, Senator Lummis emphasized the importance of preserving the American people's freedom to elect their president. She stated, "Weaponizing state courts to remove candidates from the ballot not only undermines our political system but seeks to silence the American people and circumvent their will."
The Constitutional Election Integrity Act aims to prevent these overt displays of partisan corruption and restore freedom and democracy to elections. The bill ensures that the U.S. Supreme Court has the authority to preserve the sacred right of the American people to elect their president.
