Oklahoma Christian University Eagles overpower Rattlers, split series

Ethan Box had a career day as he and the Eagles' offense overpowered the Rattlers at Dobson Field.
 
Game 1: OC 12, STMU 1
 
Box got things started in the bottom of the first with a three RBI double down the right field line. The double brought home Blake Empkey who reached on an error, Marcus Johnson who singled, and Michael DiFiore who was walked.
 
Alvarenga worked around a single to put another zero on the board, and the offense got back to work in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Preston King made STMU pay for a walk by blasting a two-run home run on to the Ray Vaughn Track, to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead after two innings.
 
Ethan Box kept things going in the third, sending a three-run home run out to left field, giving him 6 RBIs in the game. The home run extended the lead to 8-0 after three innings of play.
 
Isaiah struck out two St. Mary's batters in the top of the 4th to put up another zero, and Connor Jackson scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the 4th.
 
Two was the magic number in the 5th inning as Alvarenga struck out two more Rattlers, and the Eagles scored on RBI doubles from Coleton Hinkle and Chance Westervelt. Westervelt scored on a wild pitch, after a walk and fielder's choice advanced him to third. His run would cap the Eagles scoring in game one and give OC a 12-0 lead.
 
The Rattlers scored their only run on an RBI triple with two outs in the top of the 7th.
 
Isaiah Alvarenga picked up his second win of the season, pitching 5 innings, picking up 5 strikeouts, and only allowed 3 hits.
 
Game 2: OC 15 STMU 11
 
The offensive showcase carried over into game two, but this time Hunter Jones led the way.
 
Blake Empkey, who was the starting pitcher, got the scoring started with a two-run home run that scored Connor Jackson was hit by a pitch.
 
The bases were loaded on walks, and that brought up Jones who took advantage of the opportunity with a 2 RBI single. And Chance Westervelt added another run with a sacrifice fly RBI, and OC closed the six-run frame with Jones scoring on a wild pitch.
 
St. Mary's tried to comeback in the top of the second, but Oklahoma Christian held them to 5 runs, and kept the lead at 6-5.
 
Empkey scored on an error to get the Eagles rolling again in the bottom of the second. Ethan Box brought home DiFiore who reached on the error, with an RBI triple to bring the lead to 8-5. And Hunter Jones ended the scoring in the inning with an RBI single.
 
Chris Jones, who came into pitch, worked around runners on second and third, to put up the first scoreless frame of the game. But the Eagles offense also put up a zero in the bottom half of the inning.
 
The Rattlers put up a run in the 4th on an error to cut the lead to 9-6. DiFiore got the run back for OC in the bottom half of the inning as he scored on a wild pitch, to bring OC's lead to 10-6.
 
Jones put up another scoreless frame in the 5th, and the Eagles buried the Rattlers chances with a 4-run frame in the bottom of the 5th.
 
DiFiore and Johnson scored on an error, and Hunter Jones followed that with a two-run homer that scored Ethan Box. The home run extended OC's lead to 14-6.
 
St. Mary's added a run in the 6th, and nothing was doing for OC in their offensive frame.
 
Freshman Hank Heiselbetz hit the first home run of his career in the bottom of the 7th, to make it 15-7, Eagles.
 
The Rattlers scored four in the 9th, but Garrett Boone came in and picked up his first save of the season. Chris Jones was the winning pitcher for Oklahoma Christian and got his first win of the season.
