Oklahoma City University fell victim to a slow start in their 61- 53 loss against Southwestern Christian on Thursday night in the Noble Complex on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University.
Elaine Witt led with 19 points while OCU's defense supplied 11 steals and five blocks. OCU moved to 12-14, 9-12 (SAC) on the loss.
OCU went scoreless for the first eight minutes of play until Witt hit a 3-pointer. The Stars shot 25 percent in the first half in route to a 36-23 deficit at the half. OCU was hurt early on by SCU's three ball game as the Eagles hit 60 percent of their threes in the first half.
The second half was a different story as the Stars fought back to shorten the margin to six with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. OCU caused three 24 second shot clock violations and had two blocks in a three-minute span. The Stars outscored SCU by six in the third quarter. Witt cut the lead to three with 3:34 off a 3-pointer.
Witt was the spark plug for the Stars on their senior night as she led with 19 points on six of eight 3-point shooting. Witt, a sophomore nursing major from Dale, Okla. was the only Star to make a shot from deep. Amaya Gordon posted in double figures with 12 points. Gordon, a junior Psychology major from Ardmore, Okla. also had five assists, and six rebounds. Ray Osborn supplied nine points off the bench. Cacie Gorman had six points, four rebounds and two blocks.
