Oklahoma City University comes through for 86-84 overtime win over Friends

Oklahoma City University rallied to take an 86-84 overtime victory over Friends (Kan.) on Saturday evening at the Garvey Center.

Dravon Clayborn made the 3-pointer to force overtime and another trey that proved the difference in the game. The Stars improved to 2-3 in men's basketball.

Friends built a 52-33 advantage with 16:37 remaining in the second half on Eastyn Ruffin's 3.

"After a very slow start in the first half, I was very pleased with the fight that we showed in the second half to overcome a 19-point deficit on the road," OCU coach Mark Berokoff said. "We made some huge shots late and really locked in defensively when the game was on the line."

Oklahoma City bounced back with an 8-0 run as Avery Jackson sank consecutive 3s.

With 5.4 seconds left in regulation, Clayborn canned a 3-pointer from the left wing to even the score 74-74.

In the extra period, Clayborn scored eight of OCU's 12 points. Clayborn knocked in a free throw to put OCU ahead 83-82 with 1:27 left. Clayborn drilled a trey off Dadrian Hoambrecker's dish with 1:07 left for the final margin. Clayborn, a senior from Evanston, Ill., delivered 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Kori Guest, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., supplied OCU with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Avery Jackson, a freshman from Frisco, Texas, turned in 18 points.

Brandon Jackson, a junior from Westmont, Calif., stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals, while Dadrian Hoambrecker, a senior from Burlington, Iowa, chipped in 12 points and four rebounds for the Stars.
