Oklahoma Christian University A battle between two of the Lone Star's best goes STMU's way

Under the lights of Eagle Soccer Field, RV Oklahoma Christian (8-3-3, 2-2-1 LSC) took on the current top team in the conference, No. 10 St. Mary's (8-0-5, 4-0-1 LSC) on Saturday night.

The Eagles and Rattlers were deadlocked for the first 35 minutes of the match as the teams felt each other out but in the 36th minute, a corner kick led to a crashing goal to give the Rattlers a 1-0 advantage.

Oklahoma Christian's back line was down two players, but the newly formed back line got stronger as the match built and only allowed three shots in the second half. Fynn Koerner had two saves on the night.

OC continued to fight, getting eight shots off in the match, and they out shot STMU 7-3 in the second half. It was an unlucky night for the offense having two balls go off of the crossbar or post. The Eagles' last opportunity to tie the match came on a shot in the 81st minute, Danny Gutierrez squared up the shot, but it went just wide of the upper 90 on the right side.

The Eagles will hit the road Wednesday for a matchup with Dallas Baptist, before returning to Eagle Soccer Field next Saturday at 7 p.m. for a matchup with UTPB.
