Oklahoma City University Stars Finish as Runners-up in Missouri Southern Stampede

Oklahoma City University took team runner-up in the College 5K race at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

The Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA women's cross country, had four finishers in the top 20. Oklahoma City's Sharon Koima crossed the finish line among the top five. 

Koima, a junior from Eldoret, Kenya, had the best finish for the Stars, coming in third with a time of 18 minutes, 49.11 seconds. Coming in sixth was Cailen Jolley, a senior from Pauls Valley, Okla., who clocked a time of 19:00.55. Third best for OCU was Kaitlyn Heffernan, a senior from Bentonville, Ark., with a finish of 13th and a time of 19:37.20. 

OCU ended up second to Tabor (Kan.), who finished first with 58 points. OCU tallied 72. 

Ginger MacInnis-Pierce came in 17th with a finish of 19:54.10. Erica Pena finished with a total time of 20:26.88, finishing in 34th. Florencia Cabrera came in 47th with a time of 20:58.99. Katlyn Davenport posted a mark of 21:22.86, and Shawna Smith completed the race with a time of 21:37.22. 

Other OCU finishers were Ana Rivera (22:08.06), Amerie Manzo (22:34.99), Kaylee Clark (23:04.80) and Isabella Riggs (23:46.06). 

The Stars' next race will be the historic Chile Pepper Festival on Sept. 30 in Fayetteville, Ark.
