Mid-America Christian University Rodrigo Albuquerque Named SAC Men’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year

As the graduate student forward prepares to enter his final season with the Mid-America Christian men's soccer team, Albuquerque added one more academic award to his long list of accolades as he was selected as the 2021 Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year.

Voted upon by the league's Sports Information Directors from the 12 full-time institutions, Albuquerque will now be in the running for the SAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year accolade.

The prestigious honor is awarded to a male student-athlete that puts together an exemplary performance both on the field and in the classroom.

Last season, the SAC Player of the Year led the Evangels to their winningest season in program history as MACU ended the campaign with a 19-1-1 overall record and for the first time ever, the Evangels won both the SAC regular season title with an 8-0-1 mark and the SAC tournament championship with a 2-0 victory over Southwestern Christian in the title tilt on Nov. 11.

The Recife, Brazil product is coming of a 15-goal season, marking the third time in his MACU career that he's netted 15 or more goals while dishing out nine assists for 39 points while booting through five of MACU's 19 game-winners.

Over the course of his three-year career with the Evangels thus far, the three-time SAC Scholar-Athlete and CoSIDA Academic All-American is the program's all-time record holder in goals scored (47), assists (23), points (117), shots (250), shots on-goal (146) and game-winning goals (17).

Academically, Albuquerque earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration in May with a 3.77 GPA and is currently pursuing a Master's of Science in International Business from MACU.

The Evangels will officially open the season on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. against Bethel (Kan.) at the Dill Soccer Field.
