Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office Congratulations Deputy Dillon Pettus for being Awarded the "Medal of Valor"

002e

Please join us in. congratulating Deputy Dillon Pettus for being awarded the "Medal of Valor" by the Oklahoma Chiefs of Police this weekend at their annual conference.  The award stemmed from an incident in Spencer on New Years Eve, 2020.  Deputy Pettus, who was at the time an officer for Spencer PD, responded to a domestic dispute with Jones Police Officer David Cagle.  Both had been on the job for less than a year.  The officers learned there was a man in the house with a gun.  When they went upstairs, the suspect opened fire on them.  Then-Officer Pettus broke a window, climbed on to the roof and distracted the suspect while lighting up the room.  Officer Cagle observed the suspect was no longer pointing the weapon, so he rushed in the room and knocked the gun out of the suspect's hand, taking him into custody.  No one was seriously hurt.  Deputy Pettus and Officer Cagle showed remarkable courage, and for that we are proud they received this prestigious honor!
