Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05) has introduced a new bill, the Timely Reporting Act, aimed at ensuring accountability and transparency in the reporting of monthly border encounter statistics. The legislation would require Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to release the border encounter numbers within the first 7 days of each month, with consequences for delays in reporting.

Under the Timely Reporting Act, if Secretary Mayorkas fails to release the figures on time, the Office of the Secretary of Homeland Security will face a 25% salary cut. Congresswoman Bice expressed her concerns about the current practices, stating, "In an attempt to hide the monthly illegal crossings, they consistently withhold information until late on Fridays or even the weekends to attempt to hide the truth from Americans."

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Bice emphasized, "Our border is out of control and the lack of accountability is fostering chaos. My legislation, the Timely Reporting Act, restores transparency and forces the Biden Administration to report illegal migration data in a timely fashion." She further added, "If they fail to do their job, they will be held accountable and face cuts to their salaries."

The push for timely reporting comes in response to accusations of intentional delays in releasing border encounter figures to downplay the severity of the crisis. Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee Mark Green (R-TN) criticized Mayorkas, stating, "By strategically holding the release of these numbers until the Friday before Christmas, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is unabashedly showing the full measure of his duplicity."

With the Timely Reporting Act already garnering support from 22 Republican co-sponsors, the focus on accountability and transparency in reporting border numbers is becoming a significant point of contention in Washington. The article can be found on the Daily Wire for further information.
