U.S. Senators Markwayne Mullin and Sheldon Whitehouse have introduced a bipartisan resolution to designate January 2025 as "National Mentoring Month." This initiative aims to highlight the positive impact mentors can have on children and young adults. The resolution has gained support from 24 bipartisan cosponsors.

Senator Mullin expressed his commitment to the cause, stating, "It’s my honor to join this bipartisan resolution recognizing National Mentoring Month. Having a mentor can be a wonderful source of professional guidance and moral support, especially for children and young adults as they set goals for the future. I’m glad to celebrate the important role mentors are having in Oklahoma and across the nation."

Senator Whitehouse also emphasized the significance of mentoring, saying, "Mentors can make all the difference in the life of a young person. Our bipartisan resolution celebrates the stability and guidance mentors provide to the next generation."

The resolution acknowledges that mentoring plays a crucial role in developing life skills among young people. According to MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, having a mentor significantly benefits youth.

In addition to Senators Mullin and Whitehouse, several other senators have backed this legislation, including Tammy Baldwin, John Barrasso, Richard Blumenthal, Lisa Blunt Rochester, Cory Booker, John Boozman, Katie Britt, Chris Coons, Tammy Duckworth, Dick Durbin, Maggie Hassan, James Lankford, Tim Kaine, Angus King, Amy Klobuchar, Ed Markey, Chris Murphy, Jack Reed, Jacky Rosen, Bernie Sanders, Jeanne Shaheen, Tina Smith, Chris Van Hollen and Ron Wyden.
