U.S. Senators, led by Markwayne Mullin and Jim Risch, have introduced the American Values Act, a bill aimed at expanding prohibitions on using U.S. foreign assistance for abortion services abroad. The legislation seeks to permanently enact existing restrictions on such funding.
Senator Mullin emphasized the importance of ensuring that "American taxpayer dollars are never used to fund abortions here or anywhere in the world." He expressed his support for the bill as a means to uphold "the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
Senator Risch stated that foreign aid should align with American values and not be used for abortion services. He said he is proud to introduce this act alongside his colleagues to protect life globally.
Senator Blackburn remarked that using taxpayer dollars for abortions overseas contradicts American values and highlighted the bill's role in reinforcing current restrictions.
Senator Paul criticized what he described as reckless spending by Washington and argued against using taxpayer money for promoting abortion abroad. He views this legislation as essential for reducing wasteful spending while supporting life rights.
Expressing concern over tax dollars potentially being used for abortions abroad, Senator Scott asserted that the American Values Act aims to ensure foreign aid supports families rather than harming human life.
Senator Daines pointed out that Americans rejected a pro-abortion agenda with President Trump's election and expressed pride in supporting legislation ending U.S. funding of abortions internationally.
Lastly, Senator Hagerty reiterated his opposition to sending taxpayer money overseas for abortion purposes. He supports the act's effort to uphold pro-life values by imposing permanent restrictions on foreign assistance funding related to abortions and involuntary sterilizations.
