U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin, alongside Senator Rand Paul and six other Republican senators, has reintroduced the Defund Planned Parenthood Act. This legislation aims to prevent federal tax dollars from being allocated to organizations like Planned Parenthood for performing abortions.
The bill is supported by Senators Roger Marshall, Tommy Tuberville, Ted Budd, Eric Schmitt, Thom Tillis, and Ted Cruz. The full text of the legislation is available online.
Several organizations have expressed their support for the bill. Jeanne F. Mancini of March for Life Action stated that the act "is a critical step in the direction of protecting taxpayer dollars from supporting the abortion industry." Kristan Hawkins from Students for Life Action emphasized that "America’s healthcare dollars should be invested in care that takes care of every patient."
Ryan T. Anderson from the Ethics and Public Policy Center remarked on Planned Parenthood's role as a major provider of abortion services and cross-sex hormones, asserting they do not deserve taxpayer funding. Janae Stracke from Heritage Action described the bill as an opportunity for conservatives to fulfill promises made regarding taxpayer funding of abortion.
Mary Szoch from Family Research Council criticized Planned Parenthood's use of federal funds, while Penny Nance from Concerned Women for America called for an end to what she describes as a lie about Planned Parenthood's need for federal funds.
George Landrith from Frontiers of Freedom Institute noted that despite claims of comprehensive healthcare services by Planned Parenthood, there has been an increase in abortions and a decline in other health services provided by them.
