In observance of National Police Week, Congressman Josh Brecheen, along with House Republicans, have passed a series of bills and resolutions aimed at supporting state and local police officers.
Congressman Brecheen stated, “This week we come together to express our sincerest gratitude toward the law enforcement officers in Oklahoma and across the country who stand as the line between order and chaos in our communities. We honor their courage and will never forget the fallen officers who gave their lives in service to our communities and country.”
The congressman voted in favor of several legislative pieces including H.R. 7530 - DC CRIMES Act, which ensures that violent criminals in D.C. cannot evade severe sentences due to their age; H. Res. 1210 - condemning the border crisis under President Biden's administration and acknowledging the significant burdens faced by law enforcement officers; H.R. 7581 - Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act, requiring the Attorney General to develop reports on violent attacks against law enforcement officers.
Other supported bills include H.R. 7343 - Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act, mandating that the Department of Homeland Security take custody of any illegal alien meeting certain criteria if they are arrested for or admit to assaulting a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or other first responder; H.R. 354 – a bill aiming to improve the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act and provisions related to concealed weapons carried by law enforcement officers; H. Res. 1213 - a resolution addressing violence against law enforcement officers.
Additionally, Congressman Brecheen emphasized the role of law enforcement during a House Homeland Security hearing titled "Standing Strong on the Thin Blue Line: How Congress Can Support State and Local Law Enforcement."
