Oklahoma City University Dallas Wings name Trammell as head coach

The Dallas Wings of the Women's National Basketball Association announced the hiring of Latricia Trammell, former Oklahoma City University coach, as head coach.

Trammell led the Stars to an 85-10 record and two NAIA Division I women's basketball championships from 2012-15. Oklahoma City took its second consecutive national title with an 80-63 triumph over Campbellsville (Ky.) on March 24, 2015 in Independence, Mo. OCU owns nine national championships won in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017.

Trammell guided the Stars to three SAC regular-season titles and the 2015 conference tournament championship. OCU went 51-3 in SAC play, winning its first 22 conference games under Trammell. The Stars had a 16-0 SAC record in 2012-13, becoming the 10th team in SAC history to go undefeated through the conference.

OCU had nine all-Americans, 23 all-conference performers, three SAC player of the year recipients and three SAC newcomer of the year award winners under Trammell. Trammell won two Phyllis Holmes NAIA coach of the year honors and two SAC coach of the year awards. She served as an assistant at OCU under Rob Edmisson from 2005-07.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Dallas Wings and I am honored and excited to lead this talented roster," Trammell said. "I'd like to thank Greg Bibb and Bill Cameron for their belief in me. The investment by this ownership group in the success of the Wings, both on and off the court, is incredibly impressive. I believe my coaching experiences at every level have prepared me for this opportunity and I can't wait to get to work on behalf of this team, these loyal fans and the entire North Texas community."

Trammell joins the Wings after spending the previous four seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks. Tasked primarily with overseeing the defense, Trammell was part of a staff that led a top-three defensive net rating for three consecutive years from 2019-21. Trammell mentored four Sparks who made the WNBA All-Defensive teams, including the 2020 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, Candace Parker. Prior to her stint in LA, Trammell spent one season as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Stars in 2017.

With almost 30 years of coaching experience, Trammell has amassed a career head-coaching record of 255-131 (.661) between the collegiate and high school ranks.

Prior to her time at Oklahoma City, she spent five seasons at Western State (Colo.) and ranks third all-time in wins in the history of the program. Overall, she totaled a 150-86 (.664) collegiate coaching record. Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Trammel spent six years coaching high school girls' basketball in Texas and Oklahoma, tallying a 105-45 (.700) record.

The Claremore, Okla., native was a prep star at Seminole High School, setting a state record for most points in a single game (46) and recording 15 games of 40 or more points enroute to multiple all-conference, all-region and all-state honors.
