Rep. Stephanie Bice, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Oklahoma’s 5th district since 2021, used her social media account on October 15 and 16, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and the roles of Senate Democrats in the impasse.

On October 15, Bice questioned the actions of Senate Democrats regarding the government closure. She wrote, “Why Senate Democrats are needed to open up the government.

.

Later that day, she announced steps she had taken concerning her own compensation during the shutdown: “I submitted a letter requesting that my pay be withheld during the government shutdown. I refuse to receive compensation while the pay of tens of thousands of Oklahomans is held hostage by Senate Democrats.”

On October 16, Bice highlighted legislative progress made in the House and criticized Democratic lawmakers for their approach: “Today is October 16th

@HouseAppropsGOP has passed all 12 appropriations bills out of committee.

@HouseGOP has fully funded the government with a clean, simple CR.

What are the Democrats doing? Playing games and supporting a government shutdown.”

Stephanie Bice was born in Oklahoma City in 1973 and graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1995. Before being elected to Congress, she served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2014 to 2020.
