US Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Jacky Rosen (D-NV), who serve as co-chairs of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, have issued a statement at the start of the new academic year calling on universities to protect Jewish students.
“As co-chairs of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, we are alarmed by the continued rise of antisemitic incidents on America’s college campuses. No student should be forced to hide their identity out of fear. Universities must take responsibility by enforcing conduct codes, addressing harassment that increasingly occurs online, ensuring transparency and accountability in discrimination cases, and rejecting campaigns to boycott or exclude Jewish students. As this new school year begins, the United States Senate stands united across party lines in making clear that antisemitism has no place in higher education and every student deserves to learn in safety and without fear,” said Lankford and Rosen.
The senators’ statement comes amid ongoing concerns about antisemitic incidents at colleges across the country. The call urges university administrations to enforce campus policies, address both online and offline harassment, maintain transparency in handling discrimination complaints, and oppose efforts that target or isolate Jewish students.
