U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, voted in favor of the Health Care Freedom for Patients Act. The bill aims to reduce health care costs and prioritize patients.
Senator Mullin commented on the current state of health care: “Obamacare completely broke our health care system. Today, Senate Republicans offered a common-sense solution to get us back on track. The Health Care Freedom for Patients Act would have lowered premiums, put money back in patients’ pockets, and ensured taxpayer dollars are not used for abortions or transgender surgeries,” said Senator Mullin. “Instead of delivering relief to the American people, the Democrats blocked our plan. They’d rather focus on extending Obamacare COVID-era subsidies for a broken program and send $26 billion to insurance companies. Insanity.”
Mullin is known for his work supporting Oklahoma’s small businesses and rural development, as well as advocating for tribal affairs and veterans’ issues according to his official website. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2023 after ten years in the House of Representatives, he expanded his family business into one of the region’s largest service companies and continues to live on his ranch in Westville, Oklahoma (source). He also serves on several other committees including Armed Services, Appropriations, and Indian Affairs (source).
Senator Mullin has consistently advocated for policies addressing agriculture, energy independence, education, border security reforms, and Indian health care improvements across Oklahoma (source).
