U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, recently met with 18 Oklahoma veterans at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The visit was organized as part of the Brookshire Grocery Company Heroes Flight, which brings veterans to the nation’s capital to see memorials honoring their service.
The Brookshire Grocery Company began these trips in 2010, initially escorting World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., for a visit to the WWII Memorial. Since then, more than 500 veterans from conflicts including World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the War on Terror have participated in these all-expense-paid journeys.
Senator Mullin expressed his appreciation for those who served: “We can never thank these American heroes enough for their service,” he said. “It was a joy to meet Oklahoma’s finest at the Vietnam Memorial, hear their stories, and remind our veteran community just how grateful we are for their willingness to sacrifice so much to protect our great country. My first trip to Washington, D.C. was on an Honor Flight with my grandfather, who served in WWII, so these visits hold a very special place in my heart.”
The senator’s office also encourages individuals seeking help with federal agencies—including matters related to the Department of Veterans Affairs—to reach out directly.
