Senator James Lankford, representing Oklahoma in the U.S. Senate, addressed several policy issues in a series of posts on his official X account between September 4 and 5, 2025.
On September 4, Lankford criticized opposition to federal assistance for crime reduction efforts in certain cities. He wrote, “Opposing federal help to combat crime is a clear sign of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Cities with high violent crime rates should be asking for help, not pushing it away.”
Later that day, Lankford highlighted bipartisan legislative efforts aimed at preventing government shutdowns. In a post discussing his conversation with Representative Jodey Arrington about proposed legislation, he stated, “In this Vice Chair POV, I speak with @RepArrington about our commonsense Prevent Government Shutdowns Act. In the event of a lapse in government funding, this bill would keep Congress in session until appropriations bills are passed, while the government remains funded with an”.
Continuing on this theme the following day, Lankford reiterated his support for the bill: “My Prevent Government Shutdowns Act would make Congress stay in session and find a way to fund the government, but without punishing the American people. We need to get this done.” (September 5).
The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act has been introduced by Senator Lankford as a measure to ensure continuous government funding during lapses in appropriations and to require lawmakers to remain in Washington until they reach an agreement. The legislation is designed to avoid disruptions caused by shutdowns while maintaining essential services and minimizing negative impacts on citizens.
Senator Lankford has previously advocated for measures that address both public safety and fiscal responsibility as part of his legislative agenda.
