Sen. James Lankford, U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, posted a series of updates on his social media account between October 18 and October 20, 2025, addressing local events in Stillwater and national political developments.
On October 18, Lankford attended a major community event, writing, “Loyal and True. Great to be in Stillwater tonight for America’s Greatest Homecoming!”
The following day, Lankford commented on a shooting incident that occurred during the event. In his October 19 post, he stated, “Thankful for the quick, professional response from OSU and Stillwater police after last night’s shooting. Their swift action prevented further tragedy. Praying for those injured and for the OSU community as they recover and heal.” Oklahoma State University (OSU) and the city of Stillwater have previously coordinated on safety measures during large public gatherings.
On October 20, Lankford addressed ongoing federal government funding issues, writing, “We are on day 20 of the Schumer Shutdown. That’s 20 days of Air Traffic Controllers and federal employees not getting paid. Senate Republicans are working to fix this. That’s What’s Moving on Monday!” The term “Schumer Shutdown” refers to a period when the U.S. government has partially ceased operations due to a lapse in funding, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer often cited by Republicans as responsible for the impasse. During such shutdowns, essential workers like air traffic controllers are required to work without pay until funding is restored.
Sen. Lankford has been an active voice on both local community issues and national legislative matters, using his platform to provide updates and express support for first responders as well as federal employees affected by policy disputes.
