Sen. James Lankford, a U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, posted several statements on his X (formerly Twitter) account in early September 2025 addressing Senate procedures, government shutdowns, and concerns about the Biden administration’s handling of mifepristone data.

On September 3, 2025, Lankford wrote: “I’m working with @SenateGOP to fix our nominations process so the Senate can get back to focusing on policy. @SenateDems refuse, even though this will help the country, because they’re more consumed with opposing President Trump than fixing the problem.”

The following day, he addressed potential government shutdowns and legislative responsibility: “Shutdowns don’t fix anything, they make things worse. My Prevent Government Shutdowns Act keeps Congress in DC until spending bills are done. The pressure should be on lawmakers, not American families or our service members. Read more about how we fix Washington’s shutdown cycle.”

Later that same day, Lankford commented on recent actions by the Biden administration regarding mifepristone safety data: “The Biden administration twisted the data on mifepristone to bury safety concerns.

Thank you, @SecKennedy, for committing to fixing this problem, protecting women and girls, and staying true to the science.”

Senator Lankford has been an advocate for reforms in Senate procedure and fiscal policy. His Prevent Government Shutdowns Act is designed to prevent federal government shutdowns by requiring Congress to remain in session until all appropriations bills are passed—a measure intended to keep legislative pressure on lawmakers rather than citizens or military personnel.

Debates over mifepristone have continued since its approval by the FDA in 2000 as a medication abortion drug. Recent years have seen increased scrutiny of its regulatory oversight and political disagreements over its safety profile.
