Sen. James Lankford, U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, shared a series of posts on his social media account addressing topics ranging from religious observances to political disagreements and community engagement.
On September 22, 2025, Lankford extended holiday greetings to Jewish families worldwide in recognition of Rosh Hashanah. He wrote, “As Jewish families around the world begin to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a new year filled with peace and health. May this year bring blessings for renewal, reflection, and hope.”
The following day, on September 23, 2025, Lankford criticized Senate Democrats regarding ongoing budget negotiations and the potential for a government shutdown. In his post he stated: “Nearly half the country opposes a shutdown. @SenSchumer and @SenateDems do not care. They would rather shut down the government in the name of ‘resistance’ than do their job. It is pure political theater at the expense of the American people.” Government shutdowns have historically resulted from legislative gridlock over federal funding bills and can lead to temporary closure of non-essential government services.
Later that same day, Lankford highlighted his visit to local organizations supporting children and families in Norman, Oklahoma. He posted: “It was great to visit with the team at Norman’s Center for Children and Families and Boys & Girls Club. Strong families build strong communities, and it’s a blessing to see that work happening right here in Norman.” Community centers like these often provide essential support services such as after-school programs and family counseling.
Lankford has served as Oklahoma’s junior senator since 2015.
