Senator James Lankford, representing Oklahoma in the U.S. Senate, addressed a range of issues on his social media account between December 15 and December 16, 2025.
On December 15, Lankford expressed concern about press freedom and political repression in Hong Kong. He stated, “Jimmy Lai is a champion for freedom. The Chinese Communist Party has weaponized Hong Kong’s ‘national security law’ to control the press, imprison political opponents, and crush dissent. The people of Hong Kong deserve freedom, not authoritarian abuse. We must condemn the CCP’s” (December 15, 2025).
The following day, Lankford commented on legislative priorities in the Senate for that week. He wrote, “This week we are working to pass the National Defense Authorization Act, nearly 100 of @POTUS’ nominees, and start the process to pass five more appropriations bills before the end of January. We are trying to get this done all before Friday so hopefully I can watch @OU_Football” (December 16, 2025). The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is an annual bill that authorizes funding levels and provides guidance for defense policy in the United States.
Later on December 16, Lankford raised concerns about federal requirements for medical residents regarding abortion training. He posted, “Right now, medical residents are required to opt out of participating in abortion training if they don’t want to participate in an abortion. That’s not what the law allows.
That’s why my colleagues and I are calling on HHS and CMS to fix this. We’re asking them to make it clear” (December 16, 2025). The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requires accredited OB-GYN residency programs to provide access to abortion training but allows residents with moral or religious objections to opt out without penalty.
Lankford’s posts reflect ongoing debates over human rights abroad and domestic policy issues such as healthcare regulations and congressional legislative processes.
