Oklahoma City University dropped a 90-84 decision to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday night at The Pit at Redlands. 

In the Sooner Athletic Conference men’s basketball game of the week, Oklahoma City cut its deficit to three points in the final minute. The Stars went to 13-11, 11-7 in the SAC. 

Reece Spencer put Wayland Baptist up 73-60, its largest lead of the night, by sinking a pair of free throws at the 4:06 mark. Dravon Clayborn tallied eight points in the final 4:06 of the contest to fuel Oklahoma City’s rally. Brandon Jackson canned a 3-pointer to slice the Stars’ deficit to 84-81 with 37 seconds to go. 

Clayborn, a senior business administration major from Evanston, Ill., finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Avery Jackson, a freshman political science major from Frisco, Texas, produced 20 points, eight rebounds and two thefts while knocking down 11 of 12 free-throw attempts for OCU.  

Kori Guest, a senior criminal justice major from Tulsa, Okla., came up with his fourth double-double this season with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Brandon Jackson, a junior from Westmont, Calif., studying human performance, chipped in 11 points and four rebounds for the Stars. Wayland Baptist (19-6, 14-5 SAC) extended its win streak to nine games.
