The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced it’s 40-team men’s soccer championship field on Monday afternoon and for the first time in program history, Mid-America Christian will be one of the 10 host sites for the first two opening rounds that will take place from Nov. 17-19.
Overall, 10 sites will each host four teams as the Evangels will welcome No. 2 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan, No. 3 seed Corban (Ore.) and No. 4 seed Bellevue (Neb.) to campus as the four teams will compete at the Dill Soccer Field over a three-game stretch. The winner from the Oklahoma City bracket will be one of the 10 teams that will advance to the NAIA National Championships final site at the Jack Allen Sports Complex in Decatur, Ala. from Nov. 29-Dec. 5.
In the opening match in the Oklahoma City bracket at 2 p.m. on Thursday, third-seeded Corban will face-off against No. 2 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan.
In the 5 p.m. semifinal match, top-seeded Mid-America Christian will see a familiar foe as the Evangels will face off against No. 4 seed Bellevue, a squad the Evangels defeated 3-0 in Papillion Landing, Neb. on Sept. 20.The winners of each semifinal match will then square off in the championship tilt slated for 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Mid-America Christian will be competing in its third straight NAIA National Championship Tournament and the fourth in the last five years. The Evangels wrapped up the regular season with a 17-1-2 overall record and earned an automatic qualifier bid after winning both the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title with an unblemished 7-0-2 league mark as well as won the SAC Tournament Championship after defeating Science & Arts 3-0 at the Dill Soccer Field on Nov. 11.
