Mid-America Christian University Family is Deeply Saddened by the Loss of Coach Anthony Nero

The MACU family is deeply saddened by the loss of Coach Anthony Nero, who passed away today at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Midwest City, OK. Anthony was a proud MACU alum, former men’s basketball player (1992-96) and longtime assistant coach (2007-2021).

Whether serving the local church or recruiting the next great MACU men’s basketball player, Anthony’s mission was to see the good news of Jesus Christ spread to the people he was called to lead. Coach Nero played a vital role in many on-court victories, but what former players and colleagues applauded most consistently was his fierce loyalty. Anthony loved Jesus, his family, his church and the MACU men’s basketball program.

Today we grieve the loss of a husband, dad, grandpa, pastor, coach and friend, but we celebrate that Anthony is resting in the arms of his eternal Savior, Jesus Christ.

We ask you to join us in lifting up Anthony’s wife, Terrie, and his two daughters in prayer during this time.
