Markwayne Mullin, U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, posted a series of updates on his X (formerly Twitter) account regarding Senate proceedings during the ongoing government shutdown in October 2025.
On October 7, 2025, Mullin announced, ” CONFIRMED: 107 Trump nominees en bloc—meaning in one package vote. Senate business continues, even on day seven of the Schumer Shutdown.” Later that day, he shared a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/bVV4xOehLq”.
The following day, on October 8, Mullin posted another update on the status of the government shutdown. He wrote, “Schumer Shutdown Day 8. @SenateDems voted for the 6th time to block us from reopening the government. Vote: 54-45. Needs 60 votes to pass a funding bill.”
The term “Schumer Shutdown,” used by Mullin in his posts, refers to a political dispute in which Senate Democrats and Republicans failed to reach an agreement to fund the federal government, resulting in a lapse in appropriations and a partial government shutdown. The process for confirming presidential nominees in the Senate can be expedited by voting on multiple nominations as a group, known as an “en bloc” vote. In this instance, Mullin noted that 107 Trump-era nominees were confirmed together despite the ongoing legislative impasse.
Senate rules require at least 60 votes to advance most funding bills past a filibuster, which can result in repeated failed votes if bipartisan agreement is not reached.
