Senator Markwayne Mullin, a Republican representing Oklahoma, used his social media platform on October 15, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on military pay and Senate negotiations.

In a post from the afternoon of October 15, Mullin stated, “If it were up to Chucky Schumer, 1.3 million active-duty service members would NOT get a paycheck today. Thankfully, under @POTUS’ leadership, the White House has identified funds to ensure military families can pay their bills today, and put food on the table.”

Later that day, Mullin described the legislative situation in the Senate, writing, “Groundhog Day in the Senate. @SenateDems just voted for the NINTH time to keep the government closed over a $1.5 TRILLION dollar ransom payment. It takes 60 votes. We have 52 GOP and 3 Dems on our side.” This statement highlights the partisan divide in ongoing negotiations to reopen the government.

In a third post that evening, Mullin referred to the ongoing impasse as “Schumer Shutdown: Day 15.”

The current government shutdown has lasted over two weeks, with both parties blaming each other for the stalemate. The dispute centers around a proposed $1.5 trillion payment, which has been a sticking point in negotiations between Senate Democrats and Republicans. Mullin’s comments reflect broader frustrations among lawmakers as essential services and federal employee pay are affected during the shutdown.

Markwayne Mullin has served as U.S. Senator for Oklahoma since 2023.
