Markwayne Mullin, U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, posted a series of statements on November 3, 2025, criticizing Senate Democrats and providing updates on the ongoing federal government shutdown.

In his first post at 14:37 UTC, Mullin stated, “It’s Day 34. We need 5 more @SenateDems to come to their senses and end the Schumer Shutdown.”

Later that day at 15:28 UTC, he added details about the shutdown’s financial impact and its effect on Oklahomans: “The Schumer Shutdown has already cost taxpayers nearly $10 billion to pay non-essential bureaucrats to stay home. 16.8% of Oklahomans didn’t receive their SNAP benefits on 11/1. Let’s see if enough Dems vote to turn the lights back on after Commie Mamdani wins in New York.”

At 15:56 UTC, Mullin highlighted an impending milestone for the duration of the shutdown and emphasized upcoming legislative action: “Tomorrow, we will tie the record for longest government shutdown in U.S. history at 35 days.

@SenateDems will also have their 14th chance to end the Schumer Shutdown, pay our troops, air traffic control, and critical workers, and fund SNAP for Americans in need.”

Government shutdowns occur when Congress fails to pass funding legislation or when such bills are vetoed by the President. During these periods, many federal employees are furloughed or work without pay until funding is restored. Essential services may continue but often with limited staff or resources.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides food assistance to low-income individuals and families; interruptions during a government shutdown can affect timely benefit distribution.

Previous lengthy government shutdowns include one in late December 2018 through January 2019 that lasted for a record-setting 35 days before funding was restored.
