Senator Markwayne Mullin has posted a series of statements on X (formerly Twitter) about the impending U.S. government shutdown, attributing responsibility to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party.

On September 29, 2025, Mullin warned of an imminent shutdown if no action was taken: “If nothing changes, we’ll enter a Schumer Shutdown tomorrow night. What you need to know: https://t.co/Dh7oeYFOJg”.

The following day, with hours remaining before the deadline, Mullin continued his criticism: “We’re 11 hours away from a shutdown. Republicans are united. Dems want $1.5T to keep the lights on. FACT: @SenSchumer desperately needs a Schumer Shutdown to keep his lifelong political career alive. He’d rather run scared of AOC than support Americans and keep govt open.”

Later that day, Mullin posted another brief message: “Leading from the front. https://t.co/KHkoI3wX6q”.

Markwayne Mullin represents Oklahoma in the U.S. Senate as a Republican senator and has been vocal in his opposition to Democratic spending proposals during budget negotiations.

Government shutdowns occur when Congress fails to pass funding legislation for federal agencies, leading to partial closure of government operations until an agreement is reached.
