Senator Markwayne Mullin, a U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, addressed the ongoing federal government shutdown and his support for former President Donald Trump in a series of posts on October 21, 2025.
In one post, Mullin expressed gratitude toward the former president: “Thank you, President Trump, for inviting us to the @WhiteHouse today. It’s an honor to be in the fight with @POTUS to Make America Great Again. “ (October 21, 2025).
Later that day, Mullin referenced the government shutdown attributed by some Republicans to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. He wrote: “I hear you. I’ve voted 11 times to end the Schumer Shutdown. It takes 60 votes. We have 53 seats.
The easiest way to ensure Oklahoma families receive their SNAP benefits is to urge 5 Senate Dem holdouts to join us and re-open the federal government ASAP.” (October 21, 2025).
He followed up with another brief message regarding the impasse: “When will the Schumer Shutdown end?” (October 21, 2025).
The term “Schumer Shutdown” refers to a political dispute where Republicans attribute responsibility for lapses in federal funding and related services—including disruptions of programs such as SNAP—to Democratic leadership in the Senate.
Markwayne Mullin was elected as U.S. Senator for Oklahoma in November 2022 after serving five terms in the House of Representatives.
