Markwayne Mullin, U.S. Senator representing Oklahoma, posted a series of tweets on September 8 and 9, 2025, addressing the confirmation process for presidential nominees and recent actions in the Senate.
On September 8, Mullin expressed a call to action with a brief statement: “Yes. It’s time for action.”
Later that day, he commented on bipartisan cooperation in confirming presidential appointees, stating: ‘”For decades, Democrats and Republicans have regularly cooperated to swiftly confirm the many, many individuals selected by each President to serve in their Administration. Regardless of the party in the White House, both sides have long agreed that a President deserves to have’ (September 8).
On September 9, Mullin provided an update regarding procedural developments in the Senate: ” RULE CHANGE UPDATE:
Last night, GOP @LeaderJohnThune filed a resolution to confirm 48 bipartisan Trump nominees en bloc. Dems can decide if their TDS is bad enough to oppose. Thune will file cloture (procedural step) today, setting up a Thurs vote on 60-vote margin. (1/5)”
The confirmation process for executive branch nominees has historically involved bipartisan cooperation in the Senate. In recent years, changes to Senate rules and political tensions have affected how quickly or easily such nominations are processed.
