Prior to participating in an aerospace engineering fair earlier this year, Engineering Academy student Drew McNair said that his dad suggested he inquire about an engineering internship. McNair and fellow student Ibrahim Taha asked about Summer internships at the Boeing table, which resulted in seven Francis Tuttle Engineering Academy students starting their Summer working for Boeing.

Among the interns are three recent graduates and four soon-to-be seniors: Samuel Doerflinger and Christian Limas will each attend Oklahoma State University as aerospace and mechanical engineering majors, Yushra Guffer will major in electrical and computer engineering at Princeton University, and McNair, Taha, Collin King, and Logan Wilson will each finish their senior year with the Academy before their respective next steps.

Asked about their experience at Francis Tuttle and the Engineering Academy, all agreed that it is a unique, hands-on, close-knit learning environment, and though there are differing interests, “Everybody has the same focus of engineering,” and each have remained enthused about “…the opportunities we’re given,” including such things as the engineering fair, working on real life engineering-based projects, and speakers who are engineers, some of whom are former students.

Another area of universal agreement was “…the support of our instructors, especially Mr. Khoutahi,” who assisted and advised them in completing necessary paperwork, preparing resumes, and pushing them to achieve their potential.

The Boeing internship fits well with Princeton-bound Putnam City North graduate Yushra Guffer, who said “Since as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be an astronaut, and the Engineering Academy has given me tools to be successful in college and toward some of my career goals.”

Godspeed future engineers. We look forward to your success!
