On September 30, Congresswoman Stephanie Bice submitted a letter to withhold her pay during the ongoing government shutdown. This action comes as many federal employees face furloughs or are required to work without pay until the government reopens.

Bice, who represents Oklahoma’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress and has held the seat since 2021, stated: “I refuse to receive compensation while pay for tens of thousands of Oklahomans is held hostage by Senate Democrats. House Republicans have done their part by passing a clean continuing resolution to keep the government open. While President Trump is working to ease the burdens of this shutdown, we cannot afford to play political games with the paychecks of my hardworking constituents. Senate Democrats must reopen the government.”

Bice succeeded Kendra Horn in Congress and previously served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2014 to 2020. She was born in Oklahoma City in 1973 and currently resides there. Bice graduated from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
